District Vision |
The Greater Hill Valley School District (GHVSD) is committed to achieving the following aspirational goals:
|
We use technology to nurture creativity, spark imagination and learn from failures. We strive to develop highly effective, self-directed, and ethical learners who make a difference to their life or the lives of others. Devices such as laptops and iPads (and VR) are used as tools to take an active role in constructing understanding, demonstrating learning and interacting with the world. Teachers and students seamlessly integrate technology as objects to think with, to deepen understanding and innovate in ways not previously possible.

As a father of two boys, an educator, and a technologist at an all boys school, I have taken a particular interest in the education of boys and how technology plays an important role in their lives. I believe that when used intentionally and appropriately technology enhances the learning process across all disciplines and subjects.

Before beginning my formal educational career, I worked as a sound designer for both television and film, a sound engineer for local musicians and as a community support worker for individuals living with autism. All three of these experiences have informed my approach and attitudes towards education.

My adventures into technology started in graduate studies At the U of R, observing the difficulties of administrative implementation made me realize an MPA focused in technology and innovation for policy alternatives was the place to be. My appetite in professional studies did not end there, for after its completion I was accepted into the MET program at UBC. So the question now is where to go from there. Well I have a soft spot for the international community and the intent is to progress forward in the direction of rural EAL instruction with technological solutions for both adults and children. The certification process is a large mountain but well worth the climb.

I was once many things: I was a researcher who worked in national labs, a youth pastor who help preached, a science student who wanted to be a doctor and now a teacher who is mastering computer science. Now I am working as as an English teacher as well as learning technology specialist at a local Taiwanese Experimental school. My varied experience has taught me that any classroom needs to construct the student's attitude as much as aptitude, and that is what I thrive toward.

Integrating technology in an all-girls' school in the past 10 years has often involved focusing on digital citizenship in an era of social media. Virtual, augmented and mixed reality media seem destined to increase the emotional pull of digital devices, so I am keen to develop a deeper understanding of how these media can be embraced by our educational systems.
